Position Summary & Responsibilities

ABOUT US:

Astro Mechanica is a vertically integrated aerospace company developing a scalable technology platform to power critical infrastructure, mission operations, and the future of flight. We apply aerospace engineering and quality standards across our products, delivering high performance, reliability, and efficiency for the most demanding operating environments. Astro Mechanica is backed by leading venture and strategic investors, including Andreessen Horowitz (a16z), Giant Step Capital, United Airlines Ventures, and Voyager Ventures.

WHO WE ARE:

We’re a team of passionate engineers dedicated to advancing aerospace. We’re generalists with specialist depth, united by a flat structure and a shared obsession with building things that work well. We move fast, stay pragmatic, and let engineering excellence speak louder than hierarchy.

WHO YOU ARE:

You are a software engineer who enjoys building robust engineering tools that directly impact hardware design. You thrive at the intersection of software and mechanical engineering, and you’re comfortable collaborating with structural, loads, and aero teams to translate physics into scalable, reliable code.

You think in systems, care deeply about performance and usability, and take pride in writing clean, well-structured Python that engineers trust for critical design decisions.

You’re motivated by hard technical problems—whether that’s implementing aeroelastic solution sequences, building composite stress analysis tools, or architecting databases that make complex loads data accessible and actionable.

WHAT YOU’LL DO:

You will work closely with system owners across loads, flight dynamics, and structures to design and build the internal software backbone that enables multidisciplinary design optimization across the aircraft. Your tools will directly shape how we analyze, iterate, and converge on flight-ready hardware.

  • Develop and maintain Python-based stress analysis templates, including composite plate buckling, classical laminate theory (CLT), and composite failure theory impl

🎯 Candidate Preparation Guide For Astro Mechanica Applicants

Key Role Competencies & Evaluation Highlights

Key Role Focus:

Extreme engineering first-principles thinking, rapid hardware build-test-learn cycles, and relentless drive for aerospace propulsion disruption.

📋 Preparation Priorities (Key Areas to Clarify):
  • 1. Reliance on textbook aerospace bureaucracy and slow, risk-averse development loops.
  • 2. Inability to defend mechanical design choices under rigorous first-principles interrogation.
  • 3. Lack of hands-on shop floor experience or reluctance to get hands dirty.
✨ Recommended Role Alignment Hook:

I design and build high-performance propulsion hardware using strict first-principles engineering to compress multi-year aerospace timelines into weeks.
